Friday February 3 1956 THE OBERLIN REVIEW One Win Three Losses Give Cagers 46 Mark By DICK STEINER Running into asharpshooting wellcoordinated Mount Union College five theYeoman cagers dropped an 8159 decision Wednesday night at Alliance Ace Gilchrist led the locals with 16 points The Mount cagersoutrebounded the Yeomen while also hitting consistently from the field In the first half the Yeomen hit onlyonethird of their shots and in thesecond half were held to only five baskets by the Raiders sharpdefensive play Lose to Ashland On Jan 28 the local cagers were defeated by an Ashland College five which hit a phenomenal 528 per cent of their shots to roll up a 9885 victory despite a recordsetting performance by Gilchrist whose 32 points on 15 field goals and two foul shots broke Robie Shults previous high of 31 set in 1951 The 15 field goals was also an individual high bettering arecord of 14 held jointly by Shults and Dick Kuusela Accurate and deadly shooting by their opponents accounted foranother Crimson and Gold loss on Jan 21 when they went downbefore a Kenyon five which hit 60 per cent of their shots in thesecond half This accurate shooting in the second half was the downfall of the Yeomen since they were behind by only three points at the half 4542 Gilchrist scored 25 to again lead the locals The Yeoman JVs won their contest by a6942 score The local hoopsters won their aSabbatical is optimistic about tomor rows meet and feels that some more records will be set by what he calls perhaps the bestswimming team in the history of the College Win Twice Two meets before exam week with Case Institute of Technology and Kent State University result ed in victory for the Crimson by the margins of 4512381A and4836 respectively In the Case meet two records fell a pool mark of 1508 set by Bill Fleming in the 160yard individual medley and a school record of 5126 by the Engineers Mark Morris in the 440 Cocaptain Nate Twining finished only onetenth of a second off the pool record of 302 in the 60 yard freestyle Come from Behind Kent State gave the Yeomen a very rough battle on Jan 21 Several disqualifications at thebeginning of the meet gave thevisitors a 2615 lead by
